I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5 KJV
As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord
After a title like that I could probably break out into a chorus of "the wise man built his house upon the rock" but I will save that for another day. The reason I bring this up though is because I wanted to share what I learned in my latest journey through the book of Proverbs.
I have read through that book probably about four times now and just like the rest of the Bible, no matter how many times or how thoroughly you 'think' you read it, everytime you read again you learn something new! And this time my lesson was in "wise men and foolish men". I also noticed alot of talk about the "immoral woman" but that will be for another day.
The one thing that really jumped out at me was how many times it is said that a wise man keeps his peace and a foolish mans anger is known at once. In other words, a wise man keeps his mouth shut and a foolish man runs his mouth when he is upset. I should have kept count but I just couldn't believe how many times that was brought up. I guess that must be where the inspiration for the song "silence is golden" came from.
I think maybe I noticed this because from time to time I find myself in situations where I have to decide, do I say something because I am upset or do I be quiet and just let it go. There have been many times where I have run my mouth and things just got worse and there have also been several times when I just kept my mouth shut and the situation resolved itself. Its hard to know when its appropriate or 'safe' to say something and when its best to let things go. I think maybe God is saying....When in doubt, the wise thing is to say nothing!
Its interesting how the people that I admire the most are the ones that talk the least, but when they do, they are full of wisdom and truth
